More Singaporeans are getting pets despite higher prices

The pandemic has triggered a rise in demand for pets, and a spike in sale prices, too. According to PLC, the price hike in small animals such as hamsters, guinea pigs and rabbits is due to increased domestic demand within the exporting countries. Additionally, the disruption of the supply chain during the pandemic has resulted in a short supply of such animals imported to Singapore. Local pet store chain Pick A Pet also has seen a similar trend of more people buying pets during the pandemic despite the more expensive price tag.
