Pet Lovers Foundation is a non-profit organisation established by
Singapore's largest pet food and accessory retail chain - Pet Lovers
Centre. Although Pet Lovers Centre has been giving to charities since
its inception in 1973, it upped its corporate social responsibility
ante in 2009 by forming Pet Lovers Foundation, serving
"Pets, People, and our Planet".
It's the first pet charity in Singapore that aims to give to as well
as serve animal organisations in Singapore. Besides helping them financially,
Pet Lovers Foundation is pulling up its sleeves to help animal shelters
in Singapore. Irresponsible pet ownership is still an issue here. Pet
abuse and abandonment are still rampant. The number of pets being abandoned
in animal shelters hasn't stopped. In fact, it has been rising. And animal
shelters in Singapore are just bursting at their seams. Besides educating
the public on this issue, the Pet Lovers Foundation is
embarking on an initiative that hopes to stem the swelling population in
animal shelters. Called Canine Productive Citizen Programme, or CPCP,
the programme works with animal shelters such as ASD (Action for Singapore
Dogs) to custom train their dogs to provide critical assistance to human
beings, like search and rescue, and therapy to groups like the aged and
mentally-challenged children. The hope here is that these "marginalised"
dogs of Singapore society will be re-integrated back to our society.
The Pet Lovers Foundation is not only passionate about
helping pets. All pet lovers out there will know, how, being a pet lover
connects you on a deeper level with "people" and "our
planet". It hopes to bring pets, people and our planet together by
serving, "People", and "Our Planet" too. That's why
it's running a programme with Pet Lovers Centre shops across the island
where, proceeds from the sale of their house brand products "Burp!"
and "Trustie" and their exclusive imports products will be donated
to Pet Lovers Foundation's beneficiaries: The SPCA, ASD, Noah's Ark,
Salvation Army and ECO Singapore.
