Reported in Asiaone (March 2012)
Local animal welfare groups have been spreading the message to “Adopt, Don’t Buy” for the longest time, and it seems like their efforts are finally beginning to pay off as potential pet owners are increasingly turning to animal shelters when looking to get a new pet. However, the good news does not apply across all animal types, as dogs continue to be highly demanded at local pet stores. Although awareness levels have improved, there remains a significant majority who prefer buying puppies over older dogs as they are under the illusion that puppies are better.
Jointly organized by non-profit organization Pet Lovers Centre and the Cat Welfare Society, the recent cat-adoption drive held at Vivocity branch of The Pet Safari in March was also mentioned in the article. A total of 27 cats and 1 rabbit were up for adoption during the drive.
