Terrapins tend to become sluggish and their eating behavior is affected once the temperature on their terrarium is low. We suggest to have their water temperature be adjusted to at least 25 to 29 degress centigrade. We suggested further to provide basking light (UV).
Upon feeding, it is important to give them the amount of food they can consume within 15 minutes. Hence, feed them piece by piece and remove unconsumed food to avoid unwanted shot up of ammonia in your terrarium water. These ammonia comes from unconsumed food as well their poo. Once left unchecked it would cause medical issues on the part of your terrapins (i.e. eye problems, skin irritation or respiratory problems).
Two crucial things we would like to emphasize for your terrapin care:
1. Good water filtration system and remove unconsumed food after feeding.
2. Good temperature (using water heater) and basking lamp to have optimum environmental conditions.
